Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu meet on the train to Tokyo. They later meet again in Tokyo at an apartment viewing and decide to share an apartment with each other. Their apartment number is 707. The number seven is pronounced "nana" in Japanese, which now means "Nana and Nana". Despite their big differences, they like and respect each other. The series follows their lives in Tokyo as they fight for their dreams and grow as individuals.
Nana Osaki is a punk singer whose dream is to make a living from her music. She used to sing in a band where her boyfriend and partner Ren also played bass. However, Ren was offered a chance to debut as a musician in Tokyo when the guitarist of the popular band Trapnest.. He offered Nana to move to Tokyo with him, but she chose to stay with her band, Black Stones (abbreviated BLAST) instead, not wanting to lose her independence and pride.
Nana Komatsu has a habit of falling in love at first sight and has difficulty being herself in front of the person she is with. She is often unsure of herself, is perceived as fickle and constantly tries to play the role of the perfect girlfriend. When something goes wrong, she always relies on others to help her out of a predicament. When her friends and boyfriend move to Tokyo to study, she decides to follow a year later, after saving up enough money. Her dream is to become an independent woman and to marry her boyfriend.
